Talk Mixing Patterns To Me

Posted on 08 September 2016

In the past, this hasn't been a thing. Plaid with stripes....NEVER!! But it's not the past anymore - it's the future. And we're ready to change things up a bit! We know this is going to take a little while to get used to, but it's OKAY to mix your prints & patterns! You just have to make sure you do it like the fashion bloggers & the pro's to make sure it's not too much.

Let's Start Small

In the fashion world, stripes and print (like leopard print) are neutrals. So really, they can 100% go together. To take it up a notch, mix your striped skirt with a floral patterned shirt to add that pop of color! Team Up Basic Colors

"When you have an item of clothing that's mostly one color (here, it's black), team it up with another print that's the same color. In styling terms, it's the equivalent of wearing a solid." - (thefashionspot.com) Talk Mixing Patterns To Me

Stick To Similar Tones

When your print don't match...which is basically what this blog is all about, you should try to match the tone of your outfit! If your shirt has a subtle blue in it, maybe you want to match it will a muted yellow patterned bottom, instead of a bright yellow bottom (for instance!). Pair pastels with other pastels, earth tones with earth tones and jewel tones with jewel tones! Same Print, Different Sizes

Not much to say about this little rule except that it works! If you have two different types of stripes going on, you're golden. Even if they have different color schemes going on too! [caption id="attachment_992" align="aligncenter" width="652"]Talk Mixing Patterns To Me glamradar.com[/caption]

Utilize A Color Wheel

"Look on a color wheel and choose one hue, like green. That will be the shade of your main pattern. The two colors on either side of it (in this case, blue and yellow) will be the colors of either a) another pattern you select or b) an accenting accessory like a belt or purse. Make sense?"
